TEACHING PRACTICE WEEK 1 REFLECTION
GVHSS, Vadakkadathucavu was a learning hub for
all of us to practice the theoretical aspect of teaching acquired in the B.Ed
classes. We, as a team consisting of seven members started our teaching
practice of semester 3, on 14 November 2022. First day itself we could be a
part of the celebrations of Children's day 2022. As the school has traditional
outward look, it has the magical power to take its visitors back to their
childhood memories. The school contains LP, UP and H.S Sections. Each class has
only one division and as a result both Malayalam and English medium students
learn together. Teachers provided us with the time table and we were given one
period for every day. Each period consists of 30-35 minutes. We felt it as a
short time span to complete one lesson plan within one period.
In the first day Students responded well but
as it was the first class, I found difficulty in controlling some of the
students. But as the days continued, I could manage the class well and students
slowly got adjusted to my teaching method.
Day two of our school training period was
happened on Tuesday, 17th Nov 2022. Due to KSU All Kerala Education
Strike, after the prayer students were asked to leave the school. Being a part
of teaching community, we were asked to stay back to participate in the
discussion forum new curriculum development in Kerala. The discussion session
started at 2 pm. PTA president, ward members, panchayath president, development
standing committee chairman all were part of the forum. Retired teachers were
also participated in the function. The discussion lasted till 4:30 pm. Even
though, there was no class on this day, we were happy that we could be a part
of new Kerala Curriculum Framework forum.
On the third day of our teaching training
practice, we had a meaningful teaching experience with the students. As usual,
we reached the class by 9:30 pm and the prayer song started at 9:50 pm. Due to
the absence of certain teachers, we were provided with extra hours
On the fourth day of the teaching practice,
everyone reached the class by 9:45 pm. On this day, everyone seemed to be
accustomed to the normal school procedures. We felt everything a part of daily
routine. As the days continue, a strong bond developed among the school
students and us. After the assembly, we started our class. Apart from our
normal periods allotted, we were asked to engage other classes also. Every
moment in this school was a learning experience for me.
On the last day, we could feel a drastic
change in all the students as everyone of the school started addressing us
"Teacher" and started conversing with us freely and respectfully. In
this day, everyone in the class listened attentively during the entire class
and responded to my questions well. I could really feel a positive change from
the first class to the last class in the first week.
