TEACHING PRACTICE WEEK 4 REFLECTION

Day: 16

Date: 16/01/23 (Monday)

We reached the school exactly by 9:45 am as usual. Met the Headmistress of the school and signed the attendance register. Then we reached the staff room along with my colleagues. English teacher discussed on our weekly plan and activities that can be conducted for the students of standard 9. After that we have finalized what all should be done by this week.

I checked the time table and as it was Monday my hour for 9 standard students was the 7th hour then i started to prepare my lesson for the day, thought of teaching them a new chapter "The Happiness Machine " a story of written by Ray Douglas Bradbury deals with the fact that happiness is priceless and it cannot be controlled by a machine. Leo Auffman was one of the characters in the story. I sat and read the story completely and went on with my lesson plan.

As the teacher had to attend the PTA executive meeting, I had the chance to speak with the class 9 students while waiting for my period in the classroom. There was only 15 minutes left before the bell would ring, so I spoke with them briefly. The Happiness Machine, a story by Ray Douglas Bradbury, was introduced to the class by me by the seventh period. We had a brief discussion about happiness and the students interacted with me by sharing times. The day was excellent for me, and since it was a Monday, children didn't appear to be fatigued during my final hour at school. I departed around 3:45 p.m. They had all felt joyful. I provided a brief overview of happiness.

Day: 17

Date: 17/01/23 (Tuesday)

I arrived at the school this morning about 9:30 am. I met my teammates and we all said hello before heading to visit the headmistress, but I was unable to do so since she was rather preoccupied with the PTA meeting that was scheduled to take place this afternoon for students in standard 8 and 9. I signed the attendance register and went to my seat.

I started reworking the day's lesson plan as soon as I got to my seat. Then i came to notice that my class was at the afternoon session. Due to the PTA meeting today i had no class. Since there was no class, I began working on my college assignments and spent time writing questions for a diagnostic test. In between I had a small chat with my colleagues. Today was pleasant for me as well. There were many parents and kids in the room where the PTA meeting was taking place. The school ended at 3:45 pm.

Day: 18

Date: 18/01/23 (Wednesday)

Arrived at the school a little bit early at 9:30.However, because of the fever, I wasn't as physically and intellectually sound, even though I met the school's headmistress and signed the attendance book as normal. Then we walked into the staff room. As the day went on, as the day pass I felt that the students from classes 6 and 9 were becoming genuinely friendly with me after we had a brief conversation. I'm happier now that we go to school regularly.

I looked at the schedule and saw that Wednesday was my 7th hour for students in the 9th standard, so I immediately began preparing my lesson for the day. After that, my colleagues and I discussed our opinions of the school's assemblies and social activities, and we all actively participated in the midday meal. We all enjoyed it.

I took the seventh hour of the ninth grade after lunch. I began sharing Ray Douglas Bradbury's short fiction "The Happiness Machine," which explores the idea that happiness is priceless and cannot be reproduced by a machine. Students engaged with me during my second lesson plan, which was likewise interactive. I taught them several new terms from the story. We had a discussion about happiness in the final 10 minutes, and the students responded with me by recalling moments where the day went very well for me, and I left the school at 3:45pm.

Day: 19

Date: 19/01/23 (Thursday)

Due to some health issues, I arrived at the school this morning by 9:55am before the school prayer started. After that, my team members and I met the headmistresses and spoke with them for a short while about the interactions and activities of the students. However, because I had a headache and other health issues, I was unable to spend as much time talking to them as I would have liked.

As soon as I sat down, I began revising the lesson plan for the day. I had a 4th hour scheduled at 9th standard, but the headmistress said the 3rd hour was also free, so I decided to attend, and I later took both hours there. On this day, I am continuing  my lesson plan for "The Happiness Machine." It was a really excellent and productive day for me because I was able to introduce the story more succinctly and students interacted with me. I then participated in the noon lunch.

I took a break since I was suffering from headache then I left the school at 3:45 p.m.

Day: 20

Date: 20/01/23 (Friday)

By 9:30am, I had already arrived a little early at the school. There were 6 teaching trainees in total. We greeted one another, signed the register, and then went to our designated seats. Students were ecstatic because it was the weekend and they had two days off coming up. Since there was no assembly today, I used some of my time to check the responses to the activities I had given the previous days. After that, I began creating my lesson plan for the day. In the meanwhile, we had a brief conversation. Even though we had all prepared for her coming by finishing our daily tasks, we were all waiting for the option teacher's visit.

Today on Friday I had my hours in the afternoon session as I was prepared for that too I took part in the midday meal along with my team members and we all had a very good time. Students exhibited interest in the story "The Happiness Machine" that I was continuing in class during the fifth hour. I refreshed the story from the previous day, and they also communicated with me. I then continued with the previous day's follow-up exercise, which they had already finished.

The glossary pronunciation was the most intriguing and joyful thing I discovered today; it was pronounced so clearly and with enthusiasm. As an English teacher, this made me proud since at first, they were all hesitant to speak and pronounce words, but now they are all showing an interest in getting up. Then, in order for them to be ready, I provided the following day follow-up tasks and mentioned that a diagnostic test from the prior Last week's tale would be taking place.

Today was a really nice and proud day for me, and by 3:45 pm, my team members and I had left the school.

Weekly Reflection

Date: 21/01/23 (Saturday)

We all had to be at the college today for the weekly reflection. About 30 members of the 2021–2023 B.Ed. batch arrived at the college by 9:30am, and our principal was also there.

Everyone offered a great response about their students as they interacted with our teaching when we, the representatives from each batch, shared our experiences and the activities that were held in each school. Some of them claimed that because of other school-related activities, they were unable to finish their lesson plans as planned.

Considering our criticism and our struggle to finish our lesson plan our lecturers provided us with some tips on how to finish it more quickly and effectively given the time constraints. Around 11:30am, the weekly reflection came to a conclusion. After receiving corrections from our teachers, we submitted our lesson plan for next week. Around 12:30 p.m., we all departed the campus.
